Acevedo is in the health law group, counseling clients on compliance with statutes and regulations impacting companies doing business in the healthcare industry, including the Anti-Kickback statute, Stark, Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, etc. She also provides counsel on federal health privacy laws, including HIPAA, FERPA, and Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Records Regulation, as well as state laws governing the confidentiality of health information, medical records, mental health records, etc. She provides guidance on privacy and security issues faced by clients as they implement interoperable electronic medical records systems and other technology involving health information. Acevedo was previously corporate counsel with Baxter International where she led the creation and implementation of the company’s global privacy program. She has written several articles and given a talks on privacy and security matters, as well as healthcare fraud and abuse. She was also an adjunct instructor of health law at Benedictine University.
