Laura R. Marquez serves as Google’s Head of Latino Community Engagement and is charged with working across the company to deepen impact and strengthen relationships through internal and external partnerships. Google’s mission is simple – to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Laura’s work focuses on diversity and inclusion and the intersection with education and economic empowerment issues. As a champion of collaborative community engagement, Laura develops strategic alliances to help elevate and extend Google’s work with community partners like HSIs, small business owners and those working to support and expand the Latino tech pipeline.
Prior to her role at Google, Laura was based in Washington, D.C. where she served in both the executive and legislative branches. As a political appointee in the Obama Administration, Laura held a series of roles that spanned across functional and policy areas, including personnel management, community engagement, and legislative affairs. She had the honor of working in the White House Presidential Personnel Office as the Director for Outreach and Recruitment. Laura subsequently held the role of White House Liaison at the U.S. Department of the Interior, where she managed political personnel matters for Secretary Jewell. In addition to her time in the Presidential Personnel space, Laura worked on economic issues at the Department of Commerce and the Small Business Administration.
Laura started her career in Washington D.C. as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Fellow. This fellowship opened the door to opportunities on Capitol Hill. During her time on the Hill, Laura served as a senior staff member for two former Members of Congress – Congressman Ciro D. Rodriguez (TX) and Congressman John T. Salazar (CO).
Laura received her BA from the University of Texas at Austin and a concurrent MBA/MPA from Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She currently resides in New York City where she is based out of the Google NYC Office.
