Penney sees diversity as the talents associates bring to the business; and inclusion as the environment it creates to engage individuals. It considers its employees its greatest strength, and is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive culture that values everyone and where integrity and innovation are an integral part of how it does business. It offers employee recognition programs and associate referral programs, and to develop a workforce culture of valuing inclusion and diversity, it created associate resource teams (previously known as affinity groups), as well as regional inclusion and diversity councils. At the home office, the Inclusion & Diversity Heritage Speaker Series encourages guest speakers to address inclusion and diversity topics. Its town hall forums provide an opportunity for open dialogue for all associates. The firm also produces webcasts to address the varying needs of its customers. They address topics such as working with persons with disabilities, understanding sexual/gender orientation and recognizing generational differences.
