CSX Chief Diversity Officer Retires

Susan Hamilton Retires;

Diana Sorfleet Adds Chief Diversity Officer Role

 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – September 13, 2012 – Susan Hamilton, assistant vice president and chief diversity officer, has retired after 35 years of service that included building the company’s award-winning inclusion program. That program continues under the leadership of Diana Sorfleet, vice president and chief human resources officer, who has assumed the additional title of chief diversity officer.

“Susan worked tirelessly to help position CSX as a leader in its efforts to achieve a diverse and inclusive culture for employees and our external partners,” Sorfleet said. “We are continuing the great momentum she put in place to recruit and retain women and minorities and to create additional innovative ways to encourage minority participation in all aspects of our business.”

Hamilton joined a CSX predecessor railroad in 1977 in Louisville, Ky., and served in a variety of legal and administrative positions. She was named chief diversity officer in 2002, and recently recognized as a top executive in diversity by Black Enterprise magazine.

“Susan made significant contributions to many areas over her distinguished career, and left a well-developed infrastructure that enables employees and leaders at all levels of the company to keep inclusion interests and activities an integral part of the way we do business,” said Lisa Mancini, senior vice president and chief administrative officer.

Sorfleet and Stephanie Noel, director-diversity, now oversee partnerships with inclusion councils at headquarters and in the field. The inclusion and diversity programs also are focused on business relationships with customers and suppliers, and are a major part of CSX’s recruiting efforts directed at groups that include military veterans and the disabled.
