Together, Towards Tomorrow

12th Annual Elite Business Leaders Conference & Awards Gala

Welcome to the 12th Annual National Elite Business Leaders Conference & Awards Gala. We hope you are looking forward to participating and engaging in this event as we are. We have created an environment to encourage honest and candid exchange of perspectives, facilitated by experts in their respective fields. This conference is not only designed to celebrate achievement but to bring together thought leaders and professionals from all disciplines and industries.

New this year, Diversity MBA introduces the BID TALKS – Business with Inclusive Diversity Talks. We are not just changing the format and platform of how we deliver our conference. We are introducing a TED TALK style top our conference. We are boldly suggesting that when we bring groups together we want them to step out of their comfort zone; and not just hear the message, bu to understand issues and respond in a collaborative, creative what that drives change. We are encouraging conflict and disagreement. We know tension leveraged against creative energy drives innovation; and sometime sprouts genius.

We have blended leadership development sessions with inclusive diversity sessions; and Industry roundtables with performance development. The experts are game changing executives that are committed to continuous learning and are master facilitators. We have invited doctorate level educators along with celebrated authors and seasoned practitioners to deliver our program. The sessions are designed to be a catalyst for new ideas, best practices, and next practices. Our goal is for participants to think about new ways of learning and engagement.

My commitment to diversity and inclusion shows up not only as board chair for a thriving organization, it resonates with the values of UPMC. When we speak about how to view, balance, and achieve our mission and grow our business, diversity and inclusion must be a central part of that conversation. We are intentional in efforts to execute leading-edge and next-generation inclusion strategies to advance the organization’s diversity management capability, and its national presence as a health care provider and insurer. Our priority is to ensure that diversity, inclusion, dignity, respect, and cultural awareness are core components of the employee, health plan member, patient, and community experience.

We hope you enjoy your conference experience.

Angela L. Talton Chief Diversity Officer NIELSEN

Angela L. Talton was appointed Chief Diversity Officer at Nielsen in November, 2015 having served as Senior Vice President, Global Diversity & Inclusion (2012 to 2015). In this role, she is responsible for Nielsen’s global diversity and inclusion strategy which includes communications, advertising & brand awareness; supplier diversity; metrics & measurement; community outreach, sponsorship and alliances; as well as D&I recruitment, retention and development initiatives (re: employee resources groups and leadership development programs).

During her tenure in diversity and inclusion, Nielsen has progressively improved its ranking to become one of the top companies for diversity and inclusion on DiversityInc’s Top 50 Companies list (currently ranked #19), Diversity MBA’s BEst Companies for Diversity and Inclusion (#9), Disability Equality Index Best Places to Work for Diversity, Forbes Best Places to Work for Millennials, Fortune’s Best Places to Work for Diversity, Forbes Best 250 Employers for Diversity (#61) and for the past five years consecutively achieving a 100 score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index. Internationally, Nielsen has earned HRC equivalent recognition on HRC Mexico’s Equidad MX Index, ranked #25 on Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers and recognized as one of the 100 Best Companies for Women in India by Working Mother and Avtar.

In 2017, Nielsen was inducted into the Advancing Diversity’s Hall of Honors for its efforts to accelerate diversity and inclusiveness and specifically referenced the Diverse Leadership Network (DLN), Nielsen’s most diverse leadership development program. Created by Talton in 2013 for mid-level employees, DLN continues to deliver outstanding results on retention (30% better than average) and promotion (50% of the first class are now VP’s at Nielsen). Angela was also recognized in 2016, 2014 and 2012 Diversity MBA Magazine named her one of the Top 100 Under 50 Diverse Executive Leaders. In 2015, she received the Diversity Woman’s “Stars who mean Business” Rising Star Award. Angela has also served as Chair of the Conference Board’s Council of Global Diversity & Inclusion Executive 2015-2017.

Angela joined Nielsen in 2007 as Senior Vice President for Global Call Center Operations, COE where she chartered a major transformation agenda for the Call Centers that focused on customer service, associate engagement, simplifying work activities and operational excellence. Angela received the Arthur C. Nielsen Chairman’s Award in 2009 for the operational excellence demonstrated by this transformation.

Angela has over 17 years operations, six years diversity & inclusion, two years IT, and six years financial reporting experience. She cam to Nielsen from Sears Holdings Corporation in Hoffman Estates, II, where she served as Divisional Vice President, Inbound Services & Operations.
