Angela L. Talton was appointed Chief Diversity Officer at Nielsen in November, 2015 having served as Senior Vice President, Global Diversity & Inclusion (2012 to 2015). In this role, she is responsible for Nielsen’s global diversity and inclusion strategy which includes communications, advertising & brand awareness; supplier diversity; metrics & measurement; community outreach, sponsorship and alliances; as well as D&I recruitment, retention and development initiatives (re: employee resources groups and leadership development programs).

During her tenure in diversity and inclusion, Nielsen has progressively improved its ranking to become one of the top companies for diversity and inclusion on DiversityInc’s Top 50 Companies list (currently ranked #19), Diversity MBA’s Best Companies for Diversity and Inclusion (#9), Disability Equality Index Best Places to Work (scoring 90%), Fortune’s Best Places to Work for Millennials, Fortune’s Best Places to Work for Diversity, and for the past five years consecutively achieving a 100 score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index. Internationally, Nielsen has earned HRC equivalent recognition on HRC Mexico’s Equidad MX Index, ranked #25 on Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers and recognized as one of the 100 Best Companies for Women in India by Working Mother and Avtar.

In 2017, Nielsen was inducted into the Advancing Diversity’s Hall of Honors for its efforts to accelerate diversity and inclusiveness and specifically referenced the Diverse Leadership Network (DLN), Nielsen’s most diverse leadership development program. Created by Talton in 2013 for mid-level employees, DLN continues to deliver outstanding results on retention (30% better than average) and promotion (50% of first class are now VP’s at Nielsen). Angela was also recognized in 2016, 2014 and 2012 by Savoy Magazine as one of the Top Most Influential Women in Corporate America and in 2012 Diversity MBA Magazine named her one of the Top 100 under 50 Diverse Executive Leaders. In 2015, she received the Diversity Woman’s “Stars who mean Business” Rising Star Award. Angela has also served as Chair of The Conference Board’s Council of Global Diversity & Inclusion Executives 2015-2017.

Angela joined Nielsen in 2007 as Senior Vice President for Global Call Center Operations, COE where she chartered a major transformation agenda for the Call Centers that focused on customer service, associate engagement, simplifying work activities and operational excellence. Angela received the Arthur C. Nielsen Chairman’s Award in 2009 for the operational excellence demonstrated by this transformation.

Angela has over 17 years operations, six years diversity & inclusion, two years IT, and six years financial reporting experience. She came to Nielsen from Sears Holdings Corporation in Hoffman Estates, IL, where she served as Divisional Vice President, Inbound Services & Operations. Prior to joining Sears in 2001, she was Vice President, Business Processes at ALLTEL Communications, Inc. in Little Rock, AR.

She holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Angela is a native of Greensboro, NC.
