Barnett was a recipient of the Kaiser student nurse loan program. After completing her studies, she joined the Napa Solano Surgical Specialties management team, responsible for general surgery, anesthesia, cosmetic surgery, and the hearing aid center. She later became director of operations of Innovative Surgery and Investigative Services, then service unit director of Pinole Medical Offices. In 2011, Barnett was promoted to her current position, where she provides leadership to the departments of medical secretaries, medical legal, health education, and eye care services, as well as the Richmond, Pinole, and Alameda clinics. She is a participant in the KP Cares volunteer program, facilitating local outreach efforts and recruiting volunteers from her facilities and departments. She has also served as leader of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church Health Ministry since 2009. In July, Barnett visited South Africa to gather research data on the state of economic equity and social justice since apartheid.
