Part of DePaul’s basic core values is that a diverse workforce and educational environment are directly related to the success of the institution and essential in preparing students to participate in today’s diverse workplace. Minority students make up approximately 36% percent of the most recent freshman class. Nearly 18% of the class is Hispanic, 8% African-American, and 7% Asian. The Office of Institutional Diversity & Equity provides professional development training. The President’s Diversity Council (PDC) brings together leaders from identified constituency groups to initiate cooperative programs and opportunities for multicultural dialogue. DePaul’s Cultural Center is the hub for culturally oriented programs/services for students, faculty, staff, and the general public. It also offers financial support for cultural/ethnic student organizations representing African-American, American Indian, Asian, Ethnic Greek, GLBT, Jewish, Hispanic, and Muslim populations, offering opportunities to interact with and learn about people from different racial, ethnic, and/or cultural backgrounds outside of the classroom.
