AstraZeneca continues to evolve its programs and training to generate an inclusive work environment. In 2009, it conducted diversity training programs on topics spanning generational diversity, gender diversity, sexual orientation, and cultural diversity. Three of its eight US leadership team members are women, 52% of employees hired in 2009 were women, and 34% of new sales hires are minorities, while 57% are women. Its 14 employee network groups cover a wide range of employees — Pan Asian, Hispanic, African American, gay, lesbian, bisexual, Chinese American, female and others. They opened doors for working and adoptive parents, those advocating on behalf of special needs, military families, and employees involved in eldercare. The firm was listed among Working Mother’s 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers, as well as the National Association for Female Executives’ Top 50 Companies for Executive Women. AstraZeneca US was also named one of the 100 Best Adoption-Friendly companies by the Dave Thomas Foundation and as one of Conceive magazine’s Top 50 Companies for Fertility and Adoption Benefits.
