James E. Taylor is vice president and chief diversity officer at Carolinas Healthcare System, one of the nation’s leading and most innovative healthcare organizations throughout North and South Carolina. In this capacity, Taylor is responsible for the development and implementation of systemwide strategic diversity initiatives that differentiate and advantage Carolinas Healthcare System in the competitive industry marketplace. To this end, Taylor executes leading-edge and next-generation diversity strategies to progress the organization’s diversity management capability and national presence as a diversity leader. Previously, Taylor served as executive director, Diversity strategy execution and workplace inclusion at Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest health care provider and not-for-profit health plan. In this role, Taylor was charged with insuring Kaiser Permanente’s continuing diversity visibility and influence through the development of products and services that enhanced the cultural competence of the workforce and improved its competitive position in the market. Taylor earned both a doctorate and master’s degree in organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University and completed his undergraduate studies at Ithaca College in New York. He also received an executive leadership certificate from the Harvard Business School of Harvard University. Taylor has been recognized for his work both within and outside of health care, as he is actively engaged in many philanthropic and community based events, holding multiple board appointments (Urban League of Central Carolinas; The International Institute for Diversity & Cross Cultural Management – C.T. Bauer College of Business Administration at University of Houston; National Diversity Council) and supporting numerous charitable activities.
