Michelle Hoy-Watkins – 2013 Top 100 Under 50 Emerging Leader

Michelle Hoy-Watkins, Psy.D.

Dr. Hoy-Watkins has served in a variety of leadership positions within the professional community of psychology, including becoming the first African-American department chair at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Prior to that, she served as the former Director of the Mental Health Juvenile Justice Initiative of Cook County. She serves as a board member to the Minority Affairs Committee of the American Psychology-Law Society and the Clinical Psychologist Licensure and Disciplinary Board. In the community, Dr. Hoy-Watkins developed and facilitates a violence prevention program, Save Our School Children Program that has served close to 100 African-American and Latino youth who are at risk for delinquency. She serves on several boards, including the Dreamcatcher Foundation, the Naomi Ruth Cohen Foundation, and the YMCA, and is an as editor for the Journal of African Psychology. Lastly, she developed a library at the Kiyanza Secondary School in Rwanda.
