Ruth Gay, purveyor of Houston-based antiques brand Chateau Domingue, the leading source of monumental antiques and reclaimed materials in the U.S. The brand began when Ruth and her husband, Jack, built their family home over a decade ago. They wanted to incorporate the elements she grew up with during time spent in Europe as a child—stone flooring, ancient mantels, rustic beams, copper gutters. Ruth ruminated over the lack of sources available in the states for such items. When the kids were older, Ruth headed to Europe on a scouting trip- four weeks and hundreds of miles later, her dream of bringing architectural gems to American soil became a reality.
16 years later, with the introduction of Atelier Domingue and Domingue Architectural Finishes, now marketing under the umbrella of Domingue & Co in a new 15,000 square-foot showroom in Houston that transports visitors across continents back in time. When it comes to the reclaimed architectural product that Chateau Domingue sells, Ruth personally selects every item. Whether it’s a beautiful lot of 17th c. flooring, a pair of Louis XIV doors, or even a 16th c. private chapel, Ruth knows that what Domingue & Co. offers for its clients is something they can stand behind and be proud of.
