Vasu Raja is responsible for managing revenues in American Airlines’ $8.5 billion in international business. In 2012, he led a strategy to improve the company’s international revenues, which resulted in the best international revenue performance in more than a decade. Prior to this role, Raja was the managing director of corporate planning, where he oversaw the company’s fleet strategy, long-term planning and route profitability analysis. Raja led the planning and negotiations of the largest aircraft order and financing transaction in the history of the airline industry. He also led the development of a long-term plan that became the foundation of American Airlines’ restructuring plan. Raja started his career in passenger sales, and has held roles of increasing responsibility in the sales and marketing, finance and planning departments. Before working at American Airlines, he was a corps member in Teach for America. While living in Baltimore, Md., Raja raised money to start an after-school education.
