Exelon’s goal for an inclusive workplace involves consistent, sustained execution of its diversity and inclusion strategy, including progress measurement and accountability, throughout all levels of its business operations. In 2008, Exelon purchased $456 million in goods and services, or approximately 5% of all purchases, from certified businesses owned by minorities and women as part of the company’s Diverse Business Enablement initiative, earning recognition from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency, the Chicago African-American Contractors Association and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), which named Exelon its 2008 Corporation of the Year for program excellence. The vice president of diversity and development and her staff have overall governance, monitoring, and support responsibility for Exelon’s diversity/inclusion strategy, working closely with talent management, management development, and senior business leadership. All new employees receive education regarding diversity, and Exelon operating companies incorporate ongoing diversity and inclusion discussions and education topics for employees into regular business meetings
