Disruptive Business School in Denmark is a Change Leader for Tackling Youth Unemployment

The Principal of Denmark’s Kaospilot, Christer Windeløv-Lidzélius, tells C.M. Rubin, founder of CMRubinWorld, that his learning organization was created in response to youth unemployment. Kaospilot is an alternative business school located in Aarhus Denmark which accepts national and international students aged 21 and up. He explains the school was created because “the educational sector was in need of new takes on education.” KaosPilot also sought to answer the big picture question: “What motivates people to learn, to create and to lead?”

The school’s pedagogical approaches include learning by doing and reflective practice. Students have “a shared place where they can cultivate their dreams and skills,” says Windeløv-Lidzélius. Students are not selected based on grades but on their “experiences, motivations and eagerness to contribute to a shared learning space.”

School culture is about a community of engaged learners with all stakeholders learning together and from each other. Windeløv-Lidzélius says a big challenge has been finding the right balance: “the balance between the individual learning journey and the team, the balance between culture and structure, the balance between experimentation and doing what we know works.”
