Ada Okafor, Esq. is the first person of color to serve as General Counsel of the American Board of Surgery as well as the inaugural Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. As General Counsel, she strategically leads her organization’s legal, compliance, ethics, and enterprise risk management functions. As CDEIO, Okafor has secured the implementation of inclusive initiatives such as a Diverse Voices Speaker Series and a DEI Club. She has been rewarded numerous times for her DEI efforts and is active in various professional organizations. She also mentors attorneys of color. Okafor earned her J.D. at American University Washington College of Law and her Bachelor’s in political science and government as well as English at Southern Methodist University.
