“DEI is uniquely embedded in our mission as AIR seeks to contribute to a better, more equitable world.” – Karen Francis

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) has been intentionally incorporated into AIR’s organizational strategic goals from which their four DEI strategy pillars and implantation plan cascade. Falling under these pillars are AIR’s programs and strategies for boosting DEI awareness and practices in their organization. Among these programs are the Living the AIR Values learning series (which includes modules on unconscious bias, emotional intelligence, giving and receiving feedback, and respectful workplaces) and AIR’s Reciprocal Mentoring Program (RMP). Additionally, AIR developed CLAS PRO (Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Standards for Projects, Research, and Operations) to help staff better understand and use cultural and linguistic competence in their daily work. The DEI Council at AIR in collaboration with the DEI Office created a DEI Communications Toolkit to help AIR staff communicate internally and externally about how to accomplish their mission through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural and linguistic competence. In addition, David Myers along with the Executive Leadership Team developed 5 Commitments to DEI. Through these commitments, the CEO intends to engage all staff at every level within AIR to support authentic and meaningful integration of DEI practices.
