At Northwell Health it is critical at every level that team members feel supported no matter their background or level of ability. Northwell instituted the Emerging Leaders Diversity & Inclusion Council. The council focused on creating a culture of diversity awareness and inclusion at Northwell Health to better obtain, develop, and retain talent from all walks of life for all leadership levels. Diverse team members with a passion for leadership are encouraged to participate on the council. The council’s main function is to critically analyze current conditions within Northwell Health and seek to implement best practices in these key areas: onboarding, mentoring, and succession planning. Another key part of Northwell’s commitment to creating a culture of inclusion are their Business Employee Resource Groups (BERGs). The program was established to connect Northwell’s employees with the communities they serve through culturally sensitive services and recruitment opportunities that help foster a united, respectful and competent workplace where each and every employee feels welcome and included.
